Pamlico Tree Care is based at 1002 Old Bay River Road, in Grantsboro. Not a service area on a map, not a satellite office, not a phone number that forwards somewhere else. The trucks, the chipper, the lifts and the people all live in this town.
Grantsboro is the crossroads of Pamlico County, about fifteen miles east of New Bern where the highways meet, surrounded by pine, farmland and water on most sides. It is a small place. Which means if we do a poor job on Old Bay River Road, we hear about it at the store on Saturday.
That is the whole pitch, really. Twenty six years, an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau since 2022, and the Sun Journal Reader's Choice award for Best Tree Removal in Craven County, won multiple years running, earned by a company whose address is in the phone book here.
What that actually gets you
Often a look the same week
A leaning pine in Grantsboro is a few minutes from the yard, not an hour of windshield time. Jon can often come look at it between other jobs rather than scheduling a separate trip, though what is already on the board decides the day.
First out after a storm
When the wind comes through, the crews are already on this side of the county, so we are working while other people are still travelling.
We come back
If a stump settles or something was missed, the fix is a short drive. There is no version of this where we finish the job and disappear over a state line.
We know the road
Which lanes a truck and chipper will fit down, which yards go soft after rain, where the power drops run low. Local knowledge that only comes from working the same ground for decades.
The trees on this stretch of road
Grantsboro sits in pine and farmland with water never far away, and that mix decides most of the work here.
Loblolly pine, in numbers
Planted, volunteered and left standing when lots were cleared, so plenty of houses out here sit under pines that were field edge thirty years ago. They snap partway up rather than uprooting, which is why the piece that lands on the roof arrives with force.
Field edge hardwoods
Oaks and gums that grew up in a hedgerow with light on one side develop lopsided, heavily weighted canopies. They lean the way they always grew, and that lean is usually toward the open ground somebody later built a house on.
Anything with wet feet
With the Bay River and the Neuse either side, plenty of ground here holds water. Saturated soil is what turns a windy night into a tree laid across the drive, and it is the single biggest reason trees come down in this county.
Permits in Grantsboro
Grantsboro does not run the kind of historic district tree permit system New Bern has, where a removal needs both a permit and a Certificate of Appropriateness. Out here it is generally simpler. Still worth a call to the town or to Pamlico County before you cut, particularly if the tree is near a right of way, in a flood zone, or on a property with covenants.
If your tree is over a power line, that is not a permit question, it is a utility question. Call your electric provider first. We do not work on energized lines, and neither should anybody else who knocks on your door.
